Sonnets Seniors and LAMDA training
Once students reach senior school, they’re ready to explore acting in greater depth, developing character, understanding sub‑text and working with more advanced scripts. Our Seniors class offers exactly that, along with the opportunity to take LAMDA exams as an optional add‑on for those who wish to pursue graded qualifications in drama or public speaking. LAMDA sessions are arranged directly with David Phaure for an additional fee.

Sonnets Seniors
In the classes they will develop in 4 key areas:
1. Mime: Students learn to communicate stories and emotions without words, using physicality, expression and movement to create compelling performances.
2. Improvisation: Working without a script, seniors build characters, explore spontaneous storytelling and develop the confidence to perform with minimal direction. Improvisation strengthens creativity, quick thinking and stage presence.
3. Confidence and Projection: We teach young performers how to speak clearly, project their voice and hold themselves with assurance, essential skills for acting, public speaking and real‑world communication.
4. Emotions: Through voice work, movement and creative prompts, students learn to express emotion authentically. They explore how tone, gesture and physicality bring depth and realism to a performance.
LAMDA Acting Exams
Sonnets pupils from age 9 years upwards have the opportunity to work towards LAMDA Acting grades, from Grade 1 through to Grade 8. These nationally recognised qualifications build confidence, communication skills and performance technique and higher grades can contribute up to 30 UCAS points, making them a valuable addition to university applications, drama school portfolios or a young performer’s CV.
LAMDA coaching is delivered by David Phaure, who teaches over 200 students each week. Sessions are arranged directly with David and carry an additional fee.
LAMDA Grade Structure

Introductory Level - Entry Grade: Perform one memorised piece of your choice.

Level 1 (Grades 1–3) - Perform two memorised pieces: one from the LAMDA Anthology and one of your own choice.

Level 2 (Grades 4–5) - Two memorised pieces: one Anthology piece and one free choice.

Level 3 (Grades 6–8) - Bronze, Silver and Gold Medal exams, worth 4–30 UCAS points. These advanced grades are taught in an additional online class on Friday evenings due to the increased level of detail and preparation required.
